About Us/Me

My name is Michael J. Castronova, owner of BerkshireHillsArt.com as well as the creator of the Artwork you'll find here. I hold a B.F.A. from SWAIN SCHOOL OF DESIGN (Class of 88) and a M.F.A. from U.MASS AT AMHERST (Class of 91). I've taught at U.MASS AT AMHERST, INTERLAKEN SCHOOL OF ART and at THE RIDGEHAVEN ART INSTITUTE.

My work is based on the Human form, although greatly abstracted. I draw influences from Japanese and Islamic calligraphy. I start with a free-flowing style of sketching. Similiar in many respects to Jackson Pollack's drip paintings. I then translate these sketches into 3-D or as paintings on canvas. In the past I have worked in welded steel, cast bronze, hand-made paper and found objects. You will see examples of each on this web page. All works are for sale, unless otherwise noted. I do accept commissions from individuals as well as Corporations. Feel free to contact me for any reason.

Enjoy your visit.
